The book centres on Rudy Renfrew, a panromantic asexual Black man from Glasgow. He’s a man about town, equally as connected to the university as he is the city’s homeless community. He communes with the god of the subway and is Glasgow’s only Curse-Breaker for hire. His life has already taken several turns he didn’t expect when he faces another one by being hired to find a missing teenage girl.
Wild Magic has been critically acclaimed by advance reviewers, with Publishers Weekly saying, “Readers of folkloric fantasy will have plenty of fun with this one.” Adam Sass, award-winning author of Surrender Your Sons and The 99 Boyfriends of Micah Summers, says, “It’s an addictive read, and you’ll be as enthralled by master code-breaker (and master scoundrel) Rudy Renfrew as I was!”
The book is now available to order in to bookstores everywhere in trade paperback ($21.99 CAD, ISBN 978-1-928011-75-0) and ebook ($4.99, ISBN 978-1-928011-76-7) formats.
The publisher and author will be hosting a livestreamed launch party for the book Saturday, July 9 at 6:00 p.m. EDT on Twitch. Featuring an interview with the author, readings, and Q&A with the chat, the event is free to attend and open to the public.
Raised on the coast of Fife in Scotland, Ieuan Ledger-McQuade moved to Glasgow at eighteen to study, and to enjoy life in the ‘big city’; now living in Mexico City, they have since reconsidered this title. Working as a freelance writer/teacher, Ieuan lives with their partner and three dogs, two of which are mostly housetrained. One of their proudest achievements to date is being a member of the inaugural year of Glasgow University’s Fantasy Literature postgraduate masters course, now one of the institution’s most popular degrees. When not writing, Ieuan can usually be found in front of some sort of console or waging war against an unforgiving garden.
Wild Magic is the thirty-fifth title from Milton, Ontario-based science fiction and fantasy publisher Brain Lag. It is the publisher’s sixth release of twelve new books scheduled for 2022.
